About the Role Cape Fox Eagle Health, LLC is seeking an Occupational Medicine physician to support the NIH Occupational Medical Service based in Bethesda, MD, with telephonic and telemedicine coverage across multiple sites (Baltimore, MD; Fort Detrick, MD; Phoenix, AZ; Research Triangle Park, NC; Hamilton, MT). The role includes clinical care, program management, and regulatory interpretation to protect workers from occupational and environmental hazards.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct occupational health program medical examinations for pre-employment, fitness-for-duty, medical surveillance, special duty certification, job certification requirements, and related evaluations.
  • Serve as an occupational medicine consultant regarding hazardous conditions or exposures, interpretation of regulations, and exposure to infectious agents.
  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of workers, including consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention planning for occupational/environmental disease.
  • Interpret ancillary test results and order clinical labs related to environmental hazards.
  • Maintain and administer the medical examination program (pre-employment in-processing, baseline health, surveillance, pre-travel, fitness-for-duty, return to work, disability examinations).
  • Oversee Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and Vision Conservation Programs; support local Infection Control and Bloodborne Pathogen programs.
  • Conduct site studies and coordinate with OH supervisory staff and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Refer employees to private providers for follow-up when appropriate; communicate effectively in English to donors and staff.

What We're Looking For

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with training in occupational medicine; board certification/eligibility preferred.
  • Experience in occupational health, including pre-employment exams, fitness-for-duty, medical surveillance, and hazard exposure assessment.
  • Ability to interpret regulations related to occupational exposures and infectious agents; knowledge of toxicology relevant to environmental hazards.
  • Strong clinical skills to manage occupational injuries/diseases and follow-up care; ability to order and interpret relevant labs.
  • Experience with respiratory protection, hearing conservation, vision conservation, and infection control programs is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; ability to work with OH supervisory staff and Industrial Hygiene teams.
  • Telemedicine/telehealth experience is beneficial.

Nice to Have

  • Experience overseeing technical aspects of Respiratory Protection Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Vision Conservation Program, and MEDDAC infection control.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for bloodborne pathogens and related programs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $132.50 (exempt position).
  • Schedule: four days per week; hours 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; one week per month of telephone call coverage from Wednesday 5:30 pm to Thursday 7:00 am.
