About the Role The Nursing Practice Director leads the Nursing Practice Department within CNA/NNU, directing research, policy analysis, and education on nursing practice issues. Based in Oakland, CA, the role serves as a resource on nursing practice issues for labor representatives, provides oral and written testimony, and develops continuing education programs to monitor trends affecting direct care RNs. What You'll Do
- Supervise Nursing Practice staff and serve as a resource on nursing practice and patient advocacy issues for the organization.
- Plan, organize, and present training and education programs on nursing practice and patient advocacy at grassroots and leadership levels.
- Draft practice and policy position statements; monitor professional practice standards; provide oral and written testimony and submit public comments.
- Collaborate with legal, government relations, communications, and collective bargaining departments.
- Support contract-mandated Professional Practice Committees (PPC) in facilities to ensure compliance with nursing practice laws and patient advocacy regulations.
- Stay informed on state Nursing Practice Acts and health care facility regulations; interpret statutes/regulations and their impact on nursing practice.
- Travel as needed, with willingness to travel at least 40%. What We're Looking For
- Current Registered Nurse License (RN).
- Clinical nursing experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in nursing practice issues and healthcare policy.
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience in developing and delivering CEU programs.
- Ability to interpret nursing practice statutes and regulations and their impact on nursing practice.
- Knowledge of state Nursing Practice Acts and health care facility regulations relevant to patient advocacy.
- Willingness to travel at least 40% and ability to work in the Oakland, CA headquarters (preferred). Nice to Have
- Demonstrated effectiveness advocating for high standards for registered nurses in the workplace and patients in healthcare facilities through a labor organization.
- Experience with a labor union, social justice advocacy, or health care activism.
- Capacity to work in the Oakland, California union headquarters. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $161,921 – $261,896 per year.
