Job title: Nurse Practitioner
About the Role
The Nurse Practitioner will support the NIH Occupational Medical Service at the Integrated Research Facility in Frederick, MD and the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda, MD. The role provides confidential medical services to NIH employees for work-related medical and counseling needs and collaborates with safety professionals and NIH researchers. This is a full-time onsite position (32-40 hours/week) with potential flexible scheduling after six months if coverage allows.
What You'll Do

Independently perform initial evaluation and triage of medical emergencies

Assist in clinical care for medical emergencies, including wound care, medication administration, phlebotomy, EKGs, and blood glucose monitoring (BGM)

Implement health promotion activities within the NIH community

Work with a multi-disciplinary team to assess, treat, and counsel occupational injuries/illness and mental health crises; refer to internal/external providers as needed

Provide documentation and education about workers’ compensation and work restrictions following an accident or illness

Independently conduct pre-placement medical evaluations (vital signs, hearing/vision testing, EKGs)

Enroll and educate employees in appropriate medical surveillance programs (animal exposure, tuberculosis, biological surety)

Educate and treat employees exposed to bloodborne pathogens

Provide work-related immunizations, including international travel vaccines, and counseling

Comply with universal precautions, infection control, and waste management guidelines

Manage triage telephone calls and walk-in patients professionally with rapid assessment

On-call status weekly as scheduled for emergency care

Administrative duties: review/revise OMS procedure manual annually; order pharmaceutical supplies as needed; maintain supplies and equipment

Participate in quality improvement activities; ensure participants in the Biological Surety Program are enrolled and receive appropriate care

Collaborate with OMS Bethesda nurses via teleconference; participate in occupational health and safety committee

File all medical records and ensure Bethesda physician signs off on all reportable injuries/illness

Manage clinic operations according to OMS procedures independently in the Frederick location

What We're Looking For
-
Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN); active Maryland NP license; minimum three years post-licensure
-
Prefer occupational health background or emergency room experience

Basic Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)

Knowledge of workers’ compensation and OSHA guidelines

Ability to adhere to HIPAA/privacy regulations and perform duties confidentially

Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
