Job title: Nurse II, Student Health Services
About the Role The Nurse II at Student Health Services is a part-time clinical position responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive care to UD students. Working within SHS in the Division of Student Life, you’ll support a culture of safety, inclusion, and student success while collaborating with a multidisciplinary health team.
What You'll Do
- Independently obtain detailed health histories and perform physical assessments for a selected patient population; treat acute/chronic medical problems per physician-approved protocols.
- Utilize the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for scheduling appointments, charting encounters, and documentation.
- Review medical records including laboratory results; notify the primary provider as appropriate.
- Provide patient education and instructions within area of specialty to patients, families, health care staff, faculty, and students.
- Practice safety, infection control, and environmental procedures; maintain supplies in exam and procedure rooms.
- Evaluate equipment readiness (EKG, nebulizer, pulse oximeter, vitals machines, glucometer, crash carts).
- Participate in clinical quality improvement studies; assist with training of new staff, medical residents, and nurse practitioner students.
- Enhance professional growth through ongoing education and literature review.
- Act as a liaison between SHS and UD departments, staff, parents, and community; establish and maintain verbal and written communications with health team members.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- State of Delaware Licensed Registered Nurse (or RN licensed in a compact state); minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
- Ability to react effectively in emergency situations; knowledge of triage, CPR, emergency medical procedures, patient care charts, and patient histories.
- Knowledge of drugs, indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, proper administration, and primary care principles.
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to train assigned staff, organize and prioritize work, and make administrative decisions.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards; knowledge of clinical operations and accreditation requirements (JCAHO/AAAHC).
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration with the healthcare team and community.
- Demonstrates understanding of diverse identities and backgrounds.
Nice to Have
- Related clinical experience as listed in the ANCC generalist certification (e.g., medical-surgical, community health, school nurse, outpatient office).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: Starting rate of $15/hour and up based on experience; up to 29 hours/week; non-benefitted position.
