About this role

New Graduate RN Residency Program – Medical Cardiac IMCU

Position Overview Begin your nursing career in a fast-paced, high-acuity Medical Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) where you will develop strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking skills, and confidence caring for medically complex patients.

Our IMCU provides care for a wide range of complex cardiac, medical, pulmonary, and renal patients, including patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) requiring intensive fluid management and diuresis. This is an ideal environment for a new graduate nurse who is eager to learn, grow, and develop advanced assessment and clinical skills.

Our unit is busy and dynamic, with frequent transfers to and from the ICU and medical-surgical floors, admissions from the Emergency Department and procedural areas, and patients requiring close monitoring and advanced therapies.

What You Will Learn As a new graduate RN, you will have the opportunity to develop competency in caring for patients with: Complex cardiac and medical conditions requiring intermediate-level monitoring Congestive heart failure (CHF) and complex volume-management needs Aggressive diuresis and fluid-volume management Multiple cardiac drips, including management of up to five cardiac drips Patients transitioning to and from the ICU Patients transferring to and from medical-surgical floors based on changes in acuity Tracheostomies and mechanical ventilation Chest tubes and pericardial drains TAVR and other post-procedural cardiac patients Pulmonary hypertension and complex cardiopulmonary disease Peritoneal dialysis Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) High-risk post-procedure patients requiring close assessment and monitoring Complex medical patients with multiple comorbidities and rapidly changing clinical conditions A Fast-Paced Learning Environment

The IMCU offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between traditional medical-surgical nursing and critical care. Nurses develop the ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition, prioritize competing clinical needs, communicate effectively with providers, and intervene early when a patient's condition begins to deteriorate.

With frequent movement of patients into and out of the ICU and to and from the medical-surgical floors, our nurses gain valuable experience caring for patients across the continuum of acuity. The unit provides exposure to complex cardiac, respiratory, renal, and fluid-management needs while developing the clinical judgment necessary to manage rapidly changing situations.

New Graduate Residency Experience Our residency program is designed to support the transition from nursing student to confident professional nurse. New graduate nurses receive structured education, hands-on clinical experience, preceptorship, and ongoing support throughout the orientation and transition-to-practice period.

You will have the opportunity to: Build a strong foundation in cardiac, medical, pulmonary, and critical-care nursing Strengthen clinical assessment and prioritization skills Develop confidence recognizing and responding to patient deterioration Learn advanced cardiac monitoring and medication management Develop skills in fluid balance, diuresis, and management of complex CHF patients Gain experience with complex devices, drains, and therapies Care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, cardiac drips, and advanced cardiac therapies Experience patient movement across levels of care through transfers to and from the ICU and medical-surgical floors Work closely with experienced RNs and a multidisciplinary team including cardiology, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nephrology, physicians, and advanced practice providers Develop communication, delegation, time-management, and teamwork skills Progress toward greater independence while maintaining a strong support system

Who We Are Looking For We are seeking new graduate nurses who are: Curious, motivated, and eager to learn Comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic environment Interested in cardiac, medical, pulmonary, and critical-care nursing Strong communicators and collaborative team members Able to prioritize and organize care for multiple complex patients Committed to patient safety and evidence-based practice Resilient, adaptable, and willing to ask questions Passionate about developing their clinical skills and professional practice

Why Choose Our IMCU? If you are looking for a new graduate experience that will challenge you, strengthen your clinical judgment, and prepare you for a broad range of nursing opportunities, our Medical Cardiac IMCU offers an exceptional foundation.

You will care for patients with a level of complexity that will continually challenge you to learn and grow, while being supported by experienced nurses and a multidisciplinary team dedicated to your development.

Come build your nursing career with us and develop the skills, confidence, and clinical judgment to care for some of the most complex medical and cardiac patients in the hospital.
