Neurologist

About the Role Provide neurology care for active duty service members and their families at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) in Fort Hood, TX. The Neurologist may be scheduled for shifts between 0530 and 2300 (up to 16 hours) any day, including weekends and holidays, and must participate in on call and call-back duties with on-call periods ranging from 8 to 24 hours and call-back response within thirty minutes of notification. What You'll Do

• Provide inpatient consultation during normal duty hours; may be required outside normal hours.
• Perform a wide range of neurological evaluations and management covering disorders of the nervous system and related conditions, including trauma, vascular disorders, tumors, infections, demyelinating disorders, seizures, headaches, dementia, movement and sleep disorders, neuromuscular and other degenerative disorders.
• Examine patients and order/evaluate tests including electrophysiology, radiology, and laboratory studies.
• Make diagnoses and prescribe treatments including drugs and behavioral modalities; refer to other specialty clinics as needed.
• Communicate with patients, referring physicians, and primary care managers for management outside neurology; provide recommendations or definitive evaluation for neurology problems.
• Provide episodic care to clinic patients on a walk-in basis; evaluate urgent and emergent neurologic issues referred from the Emergency Room.
• Occasionally consult pediatric patients admitted to the ICU and admit patients as needed.
• Practice within privileges granted by the MTF; direct or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals; participate in education and training.
• Provide preventive and health maintenance care including annual physicals, health counseling, and self-care education; order diagnostic tests and coordinate referrals and appointments within MT F policies.
• Ensure timely documentation of encounters in the electronic health record (within 48 hours) and participate in quality assurance activities.
• May participate in continuing medical education and in-service training; attend meetings/trainings as determined by department leadership. What We're Looking For
• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
• Education: Graduation from a US/Canada medical school or AMA LCME approved; or graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the AOA; or graduation from a medical school with ECFMG certification as identified in the base contract PWS Part 1.5.45.10.
• Board Certification: Board certified in Neurology.
