Network Operations Engineer

About this role

A professional Network Operations Engineer is needed to join our Network Operations Control Center in Lagos, Nigeria. The role focuses on monitoring, troubleshooting, provisioning and maintaining the availability of managed network infrastructure, ensuring incidents are resolved promptly and that network services meet defined SLAs. The successful candidate will work as part of the NOCC team, report to the Manager, Network Operations Centre, and contribute to continuous improvement of network availability and MTTR.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor managed network infrastructure and respond to alerts
  • Detect, log, prioritize and resolve network incidents within SLA
  • Perform remote troubleshooting using NMS platforms and CLI tools
  • Execute Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) for new network deployments
  • Manage network configurations, backups and change implementation
  • Monitor fibre links and provide accurate diagnostics for field teams
  • Coordinate with FOAS for field dispatch and remote support
  • Maintain comprehensive shift handover and incident documentation
  • Develop and update troubleshooting runbooks and knowledge-base articles
  • Support continuous improvement of network availability and MTTR

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field; HND with relevant certifications may be considered

  • 3–5 years of experience in Network Operations, NOC or technical support

  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as PRTG, Zabbix, LibreNMS, SolarWinds or similar

  • Experience troubleshooting LAN, WAN and wireless networks

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, switching and routing

  • Proficiency with network troubleshooting CLI tools such as ping and traceroute

  • Familiarity with ticketing and incident management systems

  • Understanding of firewalls and network security appliances

  • Knowledge of ZTP and controller-based network architectures

  • Basic understanding of fibre optic networks and fault symptoms

  • Experience in a 24/7 shift-based environment is an advantage

  • Certifications

  • Mandatory: At least one of the following

  • Cisco CCNA (Routing & Switching / Enterprise)

  • CompTIA Network+

  • MikroTik MTCNA

  • Desirable: CCNP Enterprise, Fortinet NSE 4, MikroTik MTCRE, ITIL v4, CompTIA Security+ or CWNA
