Modeling & Simulation Scientist/Engineer (Postdoctoral)

University of Cincinnati
Cincinnati, OH

About this role

About the Role The P&G Digital Accelerator@UC is seeking a Modeling & Simulation Scientist/Engineer (Postdoctoral) with a strong foundation in systems and process engineering to drive product and process innovation through the development and application of multi-physics, system-level models. The role focuses on understanding, designing, and optimizing complex, coupled systems involving mass and heat transport in heterogeneous media such as human skin, moist air, and multilayer materials and fabrics. These systems are governed by interacting transport processes, thermodynamics, and reaction equilibria. A key expectation is the ability to translate physical phenomena into predictive, end-to-end process models that support decision-making, scale-up, and performance optimization. What You'll Do

  • Develop integrated, equation-based models that capture coupled transport, thermodynamic, and kinetic processes
  • Define system boundaries, assumptions, and interfaces across product, process, and environment
  • Apply systems thinking to link material design, product performance, and usage conditions
  • Use models as decision tools for innovation, design space exploration, and process optimization What We're Looking For
  • PhD in Engineering (Chemical, or Materials Science), Physical Chemistry, or a related field
  • Ability to formulate first-principles, system-level models describing physicochemical phenomena, including transport processes, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamic equilibria
  • Experience in process modeling, systems analysis, and model-based optimization
  • Strong programming skills in at least one scientific computing language (e.g., Python, R)
  • Experience with process systems engineering, model integration, or multi-scale modeling frameworks
  • Experience with numerical methods such as finite difference, finite element, or finite volume methods and equation-oriented process modeling environments (e.g., gPROMS, Modelica, Pyomo)
  • Experience with biological systems (e.g., skin or soft materials) Nice to Have
  • Strong systems mindset, with the ability to frame complex, multi-physics problems as integrated engineering systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, partnering with scientists and engineers to define model scope and requirements
  • Capability to translate complex technical outputs into actionable insights
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Compensation & Benefits UC offers an exceptional benefits package designed to support your well-being, financial security, and work-life balance. Highlights include:
  • Comprehensive Tuition Remission for you and eligible dependents, covering tuition costs for nearly all undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the university.
  • Robust Retirement Plans (OPERS, STRS) or Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP), with UC contributing 14–18% of your salary based on position.
  • Real Work-Life Balance with generous time-off policy: Vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays and additional end-of-year paid time off (Winter Season Days), 6 weeks of paid parental leave for new parents.
  • Flexible spending accounts & wellness programs
  • Professional development & mentorship opportunities
