Job title: Mobile Mechanic II
About the Role As a Mobile Mechanic II, you will perform intermediate service and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors, trailers, chassis, containers or power equipment. Working outside of the shop at customer sites or rail yards using our mobile service truck, you will provide proactive maintenance and timely repairs to keep equipment in service.
What You'll Do
- Perform intermediate-level preventive maintenance and repairs, including tire replacements, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics and basic structural repairs on tractor or trailer equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair ABS system
- Operate the mobile service truck and manage truck inventory
- Assist with onboarding and mentorship of tractor technician trainees
- Follow safety requirements onsite and at customer locations
- Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures
- Document damage to company equipment to estimate cost of repairs
- Demonstrate proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames, and other equipment
- Patch holes in trailer or container side panels and roofs
- Perform annual AA trailer and FHWA brake inspections under direct supervision
What We're Looking For
- Minimum Qualifications: 18 years old for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years old for equipment over 10,000 lbs with 2 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent; ability to supply your own basic tools or purchase through toolbox program; clean motor vehicle record; willingness to work outdoors; ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed
- Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of experience; at least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes; Welding certification; Forklift certification and experience; EPA section 608 certification and refrigeration license; strong communication, multitasking, and teamwork; proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office); ability to lift up to 50 pounds; willingness to wear PPE
