Job Summary

The Student Trainee Program provides students with hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, production and leadership. Participants will rotate through several functional areas while under the direct supervision of qualified employees.

This program is designed to help students develop technical knowledge, workplace skills, and an understanding of career opportunities within a manufacturing environment. Students will observe processes, observe assigned training activities, assist with approved tasks, and apply what they have learned through a supervised project.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in training and leadership development activities
• Rotate through designated production, maintenance, engineering and quality areas
• Learn basic manufacturing processes, equipment functions, quality requirements, and critical control points
• Assist with approved equipment checks, coolant-system maintenance, line checks, gauging, and preventive maintenance activities
• Observe basis equipment troubleshooting and repair procedures under direct supervision
• Learn tool presetting, tool-change procedures, and basic equipment or program adjustments
• Gain hands on exposure to bracket lines, body lines, and line-side engineering applications
• Follow standardized work instructions and all safety, quality and company requirements
• Identify abnormal or unsafe work conditions and follow the “Stop, Call, Wait” process
• Complete an assigned manufacturing or engineering project with guidance from program mentors
• Maintain regular attendance, demonstrate professional conduct, and respond appropriately to coaching and feedback
• Perform only approved activities under the supervision of a qualified trainer

Qualifications

• Must be a Senior actively enrolled in Millstream
• Interested in manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, skilled trades, quality, or production is preferred
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and rotate through multiple departments
• Ability to work safely and responsibly in an industrial environment
• Regular and reliable attendance is required
• Prior manufacturing experience is not required

• Basic communication and teamwork skills

• Basic math, measurement, and problem solving skills

• Ability to maintain attention to detail

• Ability to recognize when assistance is needed and seek guidance before proceeding

• Ability to follow rules, work instructions, and company policies

• Basic computer skills are preferred

• Physical Requirements

• While performing approved program activities, the student may be required to stand or walk for extended periods; frequently use hands and arms; bend, reach, stoop or crouch; and lift or move materials within 50 pounds. The student must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
