About the Role
Join Smarkets as a Mid-Level Software Engineer within our Engineering org. You’ll design, develop, and maintain services powering our business operations products, collaborating with engineering managers, technical leadership, and product managers to deliver complex projects aligned with the product roadmap. You’ll work primarily with Python and Rust to build scalable, reliable systems that support our prediction-market platform.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement and maintain features written in Python and Rust.
- Implement alerting and monitoring to ensure service stability.
- Enforce code quality by writing tests and reviewing pull requests.
- Continuously improve engineering processes including CI/CD.
- Mentor technically your direct teammates.
- Collaborate with Product and other engineering teams to scope and lead complex, goal-aligned projects.
- Be the champion of the stack by demonstrating the system’s capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- Experience as a software engineer with Python and Rust and ability to design/maintain complex features.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and Kafka pub/sub messaging, and with gRPC and HTTP APIs.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch.
- Knowledge of Linux and Kubernetes; ability to build reliable, scalable services.
- Strong collaboration with Product and other engineering teams; effective communication.
- Passion for building high-performance software and a customer-first mindset.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and mentor teammates where needed.
