Job title: Mid-level Geotechnical Engineer
About the Role Kiewit is seeking a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer to provide engineering analyses and design across the geotechnical group that supports multiple markets and project delivery models. You’ll work on a range of geotechnical analyses and design tasks for projects across the United States, collaborating with structural, civil, drainage, and materials engineers, estimators, schedulers, and other construction professionals. The team focuses on temporary structures, slope stability, earth retention, dewatering, and foundation design, with opportunities to train and mentor staff engineers.
What You'll Do
- Provide project support during the proposal/bid phase, working with multidisciplinary teams to identify and evaluate cost-effective geotechnical design solutions and challenges.
- Collaborate with the pursuit team to identify key design risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Produce, review, and provide EOR responsibilities for detailed calculation packages, drawings, and design memorandums.
- Train and develop staff engineers.
- Perform geotechnical analyses and design across project phases, coordinating with structural, civil, drainage, and materials engineers, as well as estimators and schedulers.
- Travel to project offices and field assignments as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.
- 5+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience on construction projects in the United States.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
- Broad technical knowledge of geotechnical and geo-structural design: deep/shallow foundations, slope stability, seismic design, retaining walls, earth retention, rock mechanics, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement, support of excavation, and dewatering.
- Experience with cofferdams and support of excavation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate across engineering and construction teams, and to lead/review work.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to build strong teams; travel to project sites.
- EPC or Design-Build project experience is preferred.
- Experience with AI tools and agents is preferred.
