Meter Technician

About the Role Entergy Texas, Inc.-GTX A is seeking a Meter Technician to repair, program, and test electric meters in both shop and field settings under supervision. This role involves hands-on meter work, use of laptops/tablets for programming and reporting, and progression to more advanced tasks after the first year. What You'll Do

• Use and maintain a laptop/tablet for meter programming, maintenance, completing daily work orders, time reporting, load validation, and other electronic forms.
• Connect and use test boards; understand and use testing instruments.
• Read, connect, and disconnect meters; program and test new meters; clean, repair and test old meters; read and reset demand meters.
• After the first year, perform periodic tests, make repairs and adjustments on residential and small commercial meters; inspect meter loops and check wiring grounds; check secondary voltage at customer entrances and perform load checks; calculate secondary meter constants.
• After the first year, perform complaint tests on residential and small commercial meters including those with demand attachments.
• Assist in assembling, building and installing primary metering equipment.
• After the first year, learn to use fall protection equipment for ladder/bucket work and become proficient in safe ladder/bucket operations within six months.
• Perform general and miscellaneous labor in and out of the meter shop; housekeeping; prepare detailed records and reports; operate company vehicles and equipment.
• After six months, perform de-energized transformer-rated meter installations; load, unload and handle meters, wire, tools, and materials; assist in handling materials to/from stock room and field vehicle.
• Assist qualified meterman in simple routine installs, inspections, tests, and maintenance; read and understand work requests, job drawings, and maps; assist with Job Hazard Assessments; take notes in shop and field; use various hand tools. What We're Looking For
• Vocational/Associates degree in electrical/instrumentation or equivalent experience.
• Within six months, learn company safety rules and be willing/able to administer resuscitation and provide first aid.
• Within thirty days, know firefighting equipment locations and appropriate equipment for electrical/oil fires.
• Willing and able to qualify for automobile/truck operator's license.
• Knowledge of city streets and rural roads; responsible for company tools, instruments, and equipment; familiarity with meter and repair parts stock.
• After six months, working knowledge of company practices and standards related to your work.
• After one year, elementary knowledge of electrical fundamentals, meter terminology, circuitry and theory; familiar with company rules and regulations for service/meter installations and applicable codes.
• Ability to read simple wiring diagrams/blueprints after one year; identify meters and meter materials and their purposes.
• Willingness to obtain TWIC and work in petrochemical facilities and other required licenses/background checks.
• Knowledge of meters, metering materials and their use; complete mandatory training including OSHA bucket rescue and other regulatory requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of company regulations, and county/state laws governing installation and diversion of electricity.
• Physical capability to perform essential functions, lift/carry equipment, recognize colors, work from heights/closed spaces, and maintain dexterity.
• Personal traits including hazard awareness, safety-mindedness, neatness, customer service orientation, ability to follow orders, and resilience in challenging conditions. Physical Qualifications
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations; lift/carry test equipment as needed; recognize colors; work from heights and in confined spaces; good hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Personal Qualifications
