About this role
We are seeking a Metallurgy Engineer to join our Mechanical Services Shops. Mechanical Services Shops is responsible for providing rotating and static equipment repair and fabrication of components.
Your primary role is to provide materials and metallurgical engineering support for component fabrication, repair, qualification, and failure prevention. You will establish material requirements, evaluate microstructure and properties, select processing routes, resolve degradation mechanisms, and ensure materials are fit for oil and gas service.
Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:
-
· Material Selection & Specification: Select metals, alloys, heat treatments, coatings, and acceptance requirements based on strength, toughness, temperature, corrosion, wear, and manufacturability.
-
· Material Characterization: Plan and interpret metallography, microstructure, hardness, tensile, impact, fracture, corrosion, and coating examinations to confirm material condition.
-
· Fabrication & Repair Support: Provide metallurgical control for casting, forging, welding, cladding, additive manufacturing, machining, heat treatment, and repair qualification.
-
· Failure & Damage Analysis: Investigate cracking, corrosion, erosion, embrittlement, creep, fatigue, wear, overheating, and fabrication defects; identify root cause and recommend corrective action.
-
· Technical Governance: Develop material specifications and test plans, review certificates and deviations, qualify procedures, issue technical reports, and mentor personnel.
Requirements
- You will hold a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science from a recognized and approved program; a Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
- You will have at least 15 years of metallurgical or materials-engineering experience, including a minimum of 8 years supporting industrial manufacturing, repair, or failure analysis.
- Strong expertise in ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, phase transformations, heat treatment, welding metallurgy, corrosion, fracture, fatigue, and wear is required.
- Demonstrated experience with metallography, microstructure evaluation, material characterization, mechanical testing, and failure-analysis reporting is necessary.
- Ability to translate service conditions and damage mechanisms into material, process, inspection, and acceptance requirements is required.
- ASM professional materials credentials, AMPP/NACE corrosion training, or equivalent recognized certification is preferred.
