About this role
Job title: Metadata Mining Engineer
We are seeking a Metadata Mining professional to help convert legacy systems to modern technology across web applications, middleware, batch processing, and reporting platforms. The role involves reverse engineering legacy stacks—examining the code base, software versions, and OS versions—and moving toward forward engineering into new technologies. Data mined from the code base will be extracted to raw flat/csv files and inserted into a MetaModel for interpretation by Technical/Business Analysts, Modelers, and Architects.
What You'll Do
- Analyze legacy technology stacks and code bases, including software versions, OS platforms, and dependencies.
- Perform reverse engineering to enable forward engineering into new technologies.
- Utilize an OS-based engine (Unix, Perl, Python) to run across all platforms where tools and code base operate.
- Produce raw data extracts in flat/csv format and insert into a MetaModel used by Technical/Business Analysts, Modelers, and Architects.
- Document platforms, tools, versions, number of files (lines of code), dependencies, and high-level components/objects; build lineage between platforms and code objects.
- Collaborate with Technical/Business Analysts, Modelers, and Architects to interpret and leverage the MetaModel for architecture decisions.
- Cover technologies across OS, web servers, application servers, databases, ETL tools, and BI tools as outlined in the posting.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with metadata mining, legacy-system modernization, and data extraction/modeling.
- Ability to analyze code bases to understand logic, software versions, and OS environments.
- Proficiency with OS-based scripting languages (Unix, Perl, Python).
- Experience building a MetaModel and enabling data lineage; ability to capture platform, code base, and object relationships.
- Familiarity with OS (Windows, Linux, Unix); Web servers (Apache, Sun Java); Application servers (J2EE, .NET, PHP); Databases (Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, DB2, Teradata); ETL tools (Informatica, Pentaho, Datastage); BI tools (Cognos, Tableau, Business Objects, SSRS, MicroStrategy).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with Technical/Business Analysts, Modelers, and Architects.
