Job Description

We are supporting a global pharmaceutical organisation seeking an experienced Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to support its Medical Affairs activities across Japan.

This is a highly field-based role focused on engaging healthcare professionals across selected institutions, delivering scientific and safety information, and supporting a balanced understanding of treatment-related benefits and safety considerations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field-based Medical Affairs activities across healthcare institutions throughout Japan.

• Build and maintain credible scientific relationships with healthcare professionals.

• Communicate balanced, evidence-based scientific and safety information.

• Discuss adverse event and serious adverse event information with relevant healthcare professionals.

• Support education around the recognition and appropriate management of important safety events.

• Deliver approved scientific and educational materials in accordance with Medical Affairs and compliance requirements.

• Gather relevant field insights and communicate these back to internal Medical Affairs stakeholders.

• Work independently across a geographically broad territory, including regular domestic travel and overnight stays where required.

• Preferred Background

• Native-level Japanese language capability with a strong understanding of the Japanese healthcare environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline.

• Advanced scientific qualifications such as an MSc or PhD, or a healthcare professional qualification such as Pharmacist, Registered Nurse, Public Health Nurse or Medical Technologist, would be highly regarded.

• 3+ years of Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry, ideally including MSL or field medical responsibilities.

• Alternatively, experienced pharmaceutical Medical Representatives with 5+ years of relevant industry experience and appropriate scientific capability may be considered.

• Strong understanding of scientific exchange, drug safety and engagement with healthcare professionals.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability and willingness to spend 80%+ of working time in field-based activities, including extensive domestic travel across Japan.
