Job title: Medical Physicist - Oncology

About the Role The Medical Physicist – Oncology operates and maintains therapeutic equipment and serves as an advisor to the Bay Area Hospital Radiation Safety Officer. This role supports the delivery of safe, accurate radiation therapy and ongoing QA across Bay Area Cancer Center. The position emphasizes collaboration, data-driven treatment planning, and adherence to regulatory and safety standards.

What You'll Do

  • Operate and maintain all therapeutic equipment, and serve as an advisor to the Bay Area Hospital Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Provide clinical knowledge for daily linear accelerator treatments, daily QA, treatment planning (3-D and IMRT), simulation, and low-dose-rate brachytherapy.
  • Maintain knowledge of the radiation and geometric characteristics of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and the radioactive sources used in the hospital and RTC.
  • Collaborate interdepartmentally and with the public; maintain confidentiality; exercise good judgment and think independently with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritize multiple responsibilities, work effectively under stress, and maintain regular attendance.
  • Ensure proper documentation and records of procedures and QA activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Education/Certifications/Licenses/Degrees: Master’s or PhD in medical physics or related field; certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Radiation Oncology Physics; ABR certification preferred; active ABR/ABMP certification maintained; membership in American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
  • Experience: Five years of experience as a staff medical physicist with demonstrated experience in radiation oncology (preferred). New grads with 2 years experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability in linear accelerator calibration, daily QA, and clinical radiation oncology knowledge (3-D/IMRT planning, simulation, brachytherapy); strong written and oral communication, math/computer skills, and ability to work independently; ability to maintain confidentiality and work under stress; strong organizational and interdepartmental collaboration skills.

  • New grads with 2 years experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Preference for occupying a Radiation Safety Officer role in addition to Medical Physics.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: USD 159,360.00 - 265,599.00 per year.
