About the role

  • To provide clinical care in family medicine under supervision, assessing and managing patients across outpatient and inpatient settings, and supporting the safe and effective running of the family medicine service.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and manage patients in family medicine under supervision, appropriate to the level of the role, escalating appropriately.
  • Participate in clinics, ward rounds, on-call rotas and procedures as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.
  • Work effectively within the multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other services and supporting managed-care/HMO processes through evidence-based, cost-effective practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) from a recognised institution.
  • Completion of the required national housemanship/internship and NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-NYSC clinical experience; newly qualified medical officers with a valid licence may be considered.
  • Post-registration clinical experience as a medical practitioner, including completion of housemanship.
  • Clinical exposure relevant to family medicine, with the ability to manage common presentations under supervision.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a hospital setting relevant to family medicine.

Required skills

  • Sound clinical knowledge relevant to family medicine and the ability to manage presentations appropriate to the role.
  • Sound clinical record-keeping and competent use of hospital clinical systems.
  • Effective communication with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
