Medical Laboratory Scientist
Location: Okota, Lagos
Job Description / Responsibilities
- Collect and receive patient specimens, including blood, urine, and other clinical samples.
- Perform laboratory tests using manual techniques and automated analyzers.
- Conduct tests in areas such as:
- Hematology – blood cells and blood disorders
- Clinical chemistry – glucose, electrolytes, liver/kidney tests, etc.
- Microbiology – bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms
- Immunology/serology – antibodies and immune-related tests
- Blood transfusion science – blood grouping, crossmatching, and compatibility testing
- Parasitology – detection of parasites
- Examine and interpret laboratory findings within the scope of professional practice.
- Record and report accurate test results to physicians and other authorized healthcare professionals.
- Perform quality-control procedures and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments as required.
- Follow infection-control, biosafety, and waste-disposal procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient and laboratory records.
- Ensure reagents, supplies, and specimens are properly stored and handled.
- Participate in quality assurance, audits, and laboratory improvement activities.
- Keep up to date with laboratory procedures, technology, and professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
- Professional registration/licensure where required.
- Relevant clinical or laboratory experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
