About the Role The Medical Interpreter II, National Certification provides interpreting services across Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to facilitate accurate communication among patients, families, and clinicians. This role supports emergency and routine encounters, ensuring consent, diagnoses, discharge plans, and other critical information are accurately conveyed.
What You'll Do
- Immediately and effectively respond to interpretation requests across the Institute, prioritizing emergencies
- Arrive on time to appointments and provide services from entry to discharge
- Interpret complex medical information from providers to patients and families, including consent forms, diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans
- Interpret information from patients to providers; maintain records; provide referrals to resources as needed
- Maintain professional and courteous assistance to patients and clinical staff; promote collaborative Interpreter Services
- Seek ongoing certification, training, and cultural competency development
- Log assignments, manage communications, and notify Interpreter Services of changes
- Contribute to documentation of services and maintain accurate records
- Perform interpretation in-person/on-campus, video, and telephonic modalities; may perform translation
- Adhere to Medical Interpreter Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Participate in initial screening and ongoing competency assessments
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in sociology, psychology, or related human relations field (preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in interpretation or healthcare setting
- National Certification as Medical Interpreter
- Strong ability to concentrate and communicate clearly; culturally sensitive
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work under pressure
- Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision
- Experience with in-person, video, and telephonic interpretation
Nice to Have
- Healthcare interpreter experience and familiarity with medical terminology training
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities across target languages
- Familiarity with ethics and Standards of Practice in medical interpretation
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 - $67,800 per year (USD)
