As the Medical Director, you will be the designated physician leader responsible for Advanced Practice Provider (APP) collaboration, medical governance, and regulatory oversight across CenterWell Medical Group's virtual care organization. You will provide physician consultation and clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality care in a virtual environment. The Medical Director is accountable for the physician collaboration framework, oversight of the Variable Staffing Pool (VSP) physician model, and medical directorship responsibilities for designated legal entities. As CenterWell Medical Group expands nationally, this physician leader will help design and maintain scalable collaboration and supervision structures that satisfy state-specific regulatory requirements, particularly in complex practice jurisdictions. You will partner closely with Compliance, Legal, Credentialing, Operations, and Clinical Leadership to ensure organizational readiness, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence. You will maintain a limited virtual clinical practice to remain connected to patient care delivery and evolving provider needs. This is a fully remote role. You will report to the Regional Medical Director.

Main Responsibilities

• APP Collaboration and Clinical Support

• You will be the primary physician collaborator and clinical resource for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants practicing within CenterWell Medical Group.

• You will provide consultation and guidance for complex clinical cases, escalations, and scope-of-practice questions.

• You will establish and maintain standardized physician collaboration models across multiple states.

• You will promote evidence-based medicine and clinical practice consistency across the virtual care organization.

• You will support APP onboarding, education, and clinician development related to physician collaboration requirements.

• Variable Staffing Pool (VSP) Program Leadership

• You will serve as the physician leader responsible for the Variable Staffing Pool (VSP) physician model.

• You will ensure adequate physician collaboration coverage to support APPs practicing across multiple markets and states.

• You will establish standards, expectations, and governance processes for VSP physicians.

• You will partner with workforce planning, credentialing, and operational leaders to forecast physician collaboration requirements.

• You will evaluate collaboration capacity, utilization, and effectiveness to support organizational growth and scalability.

• Medical Directorship & Legal Entity Oversight

• You will be the Medical Director for designated CenterWell Medical Group legal entities.

• You will fulfill all physician oversight responsibilities required by applicable regulations, state medical boards, and organizational policies.

• You will ensure clinical programs operate following state and federal regulatory requirements.

• You will provide physician leadership during regulatory reviews, audits, accreditation activities, and compliance assessments.

• You will partner with Legal and Compliance teams regarding physician practice standards and regulatory interpretation.

• Multi-State Regulatory Strategy

• You will maintain active physician licensure and qualifications necessary to support organizational operations in multiple jurisdictions.

• You will support physician collaboration and supervision requirements in states with complex regulatory environments.

• You will serve as an organizational subject matter expert regarding APP collaboration requirements, physician supervision regulations, and virtual care practice standards.

• You will advise leadership regarding regulatory considerations associated with market expansion, provider deployment, and legal entity structure.

• You will provide physician collaboration support for providers practicing in states where specific licensure, supervision, or collaboration requirements create additional operational complexity.

• Clinical Governance & Quality

• You will support the development, implementation, and review of clinical policies and standards.

• You will participate in quality, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.

• You will review clinical trends, escalations, and provider feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.

• You will foster a culture of accountability, quality, and patient-centered care.

• Direct Patient Care

• You will conduct virtual patient visits to ensure appropriate follow up care within care delivery workflows

• You will leverage direct patient care experience to inform program design, provider support models, and clinical governance activities.

• You will identify opportunities to improve the patient and provider experience in the virtual care model.

• Required Qualifications

• You will have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.

• You will have a Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, or related primary care specialty.

• You will have 10 unrestricted medical licenses and the ability to obtain more.

• You will have 5 years of clinical practice experience.

• Within the last two, you will have experience serving as a collaborating physician for virtual Advanced Practice Providers.

• You will have knowledge of telehealth, virtual care delivery, and value-based care models.

• You will have strong understanding of physician collaboration, APP practice regulations, and healthcare compliance requirements.

• Preferred Qualifications

• You will have experience serving as Medical Director for healthcare entities operating across multiple jurisdictions.

• You will have experience in value-based primary care and senior-focused healthcare delivery.

Requirements

• Pay Range

• The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

• $223,800 - $313,100 per year

• This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
