Job title: Medical Director
About the Role The Medical Director oversees the day-to-day operations of Thrive Alabama's clinical operations and directs all aspects of the clinic's medical policies and programs. This role also serves as a practicing Clinic Physician delivering high-quality primary care services.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and evaluate the quality of care for all patients, and maintain documentation of clinical procedures and protocols.
- Provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care to patients at a minimum of 16 hours per week, in accordance with privileges.
- Lead QA and CQI activities, including regular meetings, clinical audits, and peer reviews; report to the CEO and Board.
- Collaborate with the medical team to create a cohesive and proactive environment to enhance patient care.
- Work with the COO to improve clinical efficiency and workflows.
- Provide clinic leadership, offering advice and recommendations to the CEO.
- Collaborate with nurse practitioners on consultations, case presentations, chart reviews, on-the-job training and peer review.
- Assist in continuing education, on-the-job training, and orientation of agency staff.
- Supervise, advise, counsel, and discipline all providers in conjunction with Human Resources; approve leave for medical providers.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities and interviews for medical staff.
- Contribute to short- and long-term program planning for the medical team and the agency.
- Participate in the development of the medical budget, staffing, support plans, and equipment needs projection with ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
- Develop medical department policies and procedures in line with accreditation requirements and professional standards.
- Assist medical providers by covering PTO, seeing patients, processing refill requests, following up on referrals, covering telephone encounters and documenting jellybeans within the EMR.
- Ensure accurate, legible, and timely chart documentation, following clinic policies and Medicaid/Medicare guidelines; lock charts within 72 hours of visits; use standard abbreviations.
- Maintain licensure (DEA) and board certification; credentialing and privileging for internal agency work and external payers/regulatory bodies.
- Adhere to department policies, procedures, safety, infection control standards, and ongoing quality improvement.
- Travel to represent the agency as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
