Job title: Mechanical Estimator
About the Role As a Mechanical Estimator, you will prepare, review, and present discipline estimates for project proposal activities. You will provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop conceptual estimates, and perform cost analysis. You will assist in developing discipline estimates, maintaining historical databases, and contributing to department procedures. You may provide direction on estimating level tasks as required.
What You'll Do
- Determine installation quantities based on drawings and specifications
- Prepare cost estimates on work for major projects locally and across Canada
- Develop comprehensive estimates for large and complex works
- Review owner plans and specifications to understand the project and develop a construction plan as the basis for the estimate
- Review tender and contract documents and coordinate with home office legal guidance as needed
- Coordinate with planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal teams
- Prepare and present estimates to management and external clients
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers
- Collaborate with the estimate team on continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical estimation with relevant industry experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical estimating for major projects
- Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market
- Excellent communication; English skills; French preferred
- Effective presentation and negotiation skills
- Advanced computer skills, MS Office proficiency, and Bluebeam software (asset)
- Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas and mining (asset)
- Willingness to travel to project sites or meet with clients for estimate needs
- Well-organized, flexible, team player, detail oriented and able to multi-task
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines amid changing tasks
- Regular, reliable attendance; able to work overtime and weekends as required
Nice to Have
- French language proficiency (preferred)
- Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas and mining projects (asset)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Compensation: $90,000 - $140,000 per year
