Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our Product Development organization in Marshalltown, Iowa! In this working manager role, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for the development and delivery of innovative products from concept through commercialization. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people leadership, technical direction, and product development execution. You will build a high-performing engineering team while providing technical leadership and contributing to key engineering decisions across multiple initiatives.

Responsibilities

Will Be:

  • People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanical engineers and Cad Designers supporting new product development programs.

  • Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Conduct performance reviews, development planning, talent assessments.

  • Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent while building organizational capability.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.

  • Create development opportunities that strengthen both technical expertise and leadership capabilities across the team.

  • Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering activities across multiple development programs.

  • Guide product architecture decisions, design reviews, technology selection, and risk management activities.

  • Ensure engineering solutions balance performance, manufacturability, reliability, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

  • Review and approve key technical deliverables and engineering decisions.

  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex engineering challenges.

  • Remain actively engaged in critical design, analysis, validation, and problem-solving activities when appropriate.

  • New Product Development Leadership

  • Partner with Program Managers and Product Managers to ensure successful execution of product roadmaps.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables support milestone commitments, product launch objectives, and business goals.

  • Manage technical risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

  • Participate in gate reviews and provide recommendations regarding technical readiness and project execution.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build strong partnerships across Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Marketing.

  • Align stakeholders on technical direction, priorities, and project execution plans.

  • Promote collaboration between global engineering teams to leverage expertise and accelerate development efforts.

  • Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive adoption of engineering best practices, design standards, and product development methodologies.

  • Champion initiatives that improve product quality, engineering productivity, and development cycle time.

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, digital engineering tools, simulation methods, and AI-enabled engineering practices.

  • Contribute to long-term technology roadmaps and engineering strategy development.

  • For This Role, You Will Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in product development.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects and cross-functional teams.

  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising engineers.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical product development processes and engineering fundamentals.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

  • Experience managing competing priorities and driving execution in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Qualifications

  • That Set You Apart

  • Previous formal people leadership experience with direct reports.

  • Experience leading new product development teams in industrial, automation, instrumentation, or process control industries.

  • Experience with castings, machining, plastics, electronics packaging, or electromechanical assemblies.

  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), reliability engineering, and product validation practices.

  • Experience working with global engineering teams and distributed development organizations.

  • Familiarity with Agile, Stage-Gate, or hybrid product development methodologies.

  • Experience implementing AI-enabled engineering workflows, engineering analytics, or advanced digital engineering tools.

  • Our compensation philosophy is simple: We pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during the annual merit review process. The total target comp range for this position is $90,000 - $ 110,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
