General Summary

The Mechanical Engineer III is a mid-career level position that performs and provides leadership during the full lifecycle product development. Also assists in the creation of production drawings and ensures designs meet requirements set by customers and our own internal standards as well as provides technical guidance for manufacturing.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs and assists in full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture, and implement).

• Designs systems and components for production drawings.

• Creates and evaluates conceptual designs.

• Creates reports and product support documentation.

• Designs with consideration for safety codes, standards, and best practice.

• Advises junior engineers on which to consider.

• Prepares product reports and documentation.

• Creates Engineering Change documentation.

• Troubleshoots and documents mechanical discrepancies on military land, air, and sea training systems.

• Works with project management to develop schedule baselines and targets.

• Recommends engineering design changes for product and process improvement.

• Coordinates efforts and provides technical guidance to LSI personnel.

• Conducts design reviews with manufacturing and other applicable disciplines.

• Leads project and provides mentorship to junior engineers and Mechanical Designers.

• Provides mentorship, and technical guidance to mechanics and technicians.

• Assists the Mechanical Engineering Manager with document design standards, processes, and procedures.

• Provides technical direction for new product design and new technology needs.

• Must be capable of safely handling government furnished equipment and materials.

• Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.

• Develops knowledge of military specifications for materials, parts, and processes.

• Develops creativity, innovation, and commitment to excellence with the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must have a working knowledge of SolidWorks.

• Must have knowledge of ASME Y14.100 & Y14.5 drawings.

• Working experience with product Data Management (PDM),

• Must have working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

• Advanced understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, etc.

• Must have knowledge of various fabrication and assembly including metal machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.

• Knowledge of industry and military specifications for materials, parts, and processes preferred.

• Knowledge of military land, air, and sea training systems.

• Must have creativity, innovation, and commitment to excellence with the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.

• Must work well in a team environment.

• Working knowledge of 3D scanning equipment and 3D printing a plus.

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project required.

• Must be able to travel.

• Must be able to obtain security clearance if required by the contract.

• Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

• Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Aerospace Engineering with applicable specialty (i.e. mechanical or design.)

• Five (5) years’ applicable mechanical engineering experience.

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working on LSI simulation program and projects or equivalent preferred.

• Prior military with aviation maintenance experience a plus.
