Job title: Mechanical Designer

About the Role Mechanical Designer at Harriman’s Mechanical studio in our growing, full-service practice. We emphasize a holistic, ground-up approach to design and collaboration with integrated engineering groups. This role supports a hybrid work environment and focuses on HVAC design, project delivery, and interdisciplinary coordination.

What You'll Do

• Act independently regarding engineering methods and complexities, applying sound and practical knowledge of engineering principles in a broad array of assignments.
• Plan and conduct work including evaluation, selection, and design.
• Assess problems when encountered and provide guidance to engineers, interns, and other company personnel on project designs and solutions or unusual or complex issues or projects.
• May provide project oversight and management, supervision and guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, or new concepts.
• Organizes work to ensure all deadlines are met.
• Design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, and healthcare facilities.
• Perform HVAC building calculations, equipment selection, specification writing, etc.
• Field-discovery skills and MEP troubleshooting experience.
• Assist or manage scope, schedule, budget, and delivery of projects.
• Research new applications.
• Coordinate as a team with the other Harriman disciplines for building design.

What We're Looking For

• No previous experience as a mechanical designer is required.
• Familiar with the basic principles of engineering, knowledge, basic math, physics, and mechanical science applicable to the field.
• Undergrad Degree (2 years minimum) in Mechanical Engineering (other engineering or technical degrees to be considered on a case-by-case basis).
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Software Proficiencies: Revit and/or AutoCAD; Newforma Project Center; PDF editing software such as Adobe or Bluebeam; Load Calculation software, Trane Trace 700/3D; Deltek Vision; Microsoft Office Suite; Zoom/Teams/Video Conferencing.
• Ability to learn new software quickly.
