Mechanical Designer

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join Corning's Optical Communications organization. The role involves creating and refining mechanical equipment designs and layouts using AutoCAD and Inventor, ensuring adherence to Corning drafting standards, with placements in Wilmington, NC or Concord, NC. What You'll Do

• Develop and deliver mechanical equipment designs and layouts using AutoCAD® and Inventor, ensuring compliance with Corning drafting standards.

• Produce and maintain detailed drawing packages, build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and equipment specifications for production systems.

• Redesign mechanical components to reduce installation costs, resolve equipment interferences, and correct design deficiencies.

• Execute design changes to address equipment or process challenges, ensuring all designs meet functional and performance requirements.

• Provide detailed sketches and marked-up drawings to address evolving project needs. What We're Looking For

• Associate’s degree (AAS) in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering.

• 2+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and translate engineering solutions into equipment design requirements.

• Demonstrated commitment to job-site safety.

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication, to ensure efficient and practical designs.

• Travel: Occasional travel to vendor locations to gather equipment-related information; travel is expected to be minimal. Travel will be required to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina. Nice to Have

• Highly motivated and results-oriented professional with excellent organizational skills.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.

• Comfortable working in small teams and collaborating across departments to meet deadlines.
