Custom Equipment Design | SolidWorks

A leading designer and manufacturer of custom industrial furnace systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Dayton, OH. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys designing custom, low-volume, high-performance equipment in a collaborative and hands-on environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Design custom industrial furnaces and related systems from concept to production

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawing packages using SolidWorks

  • Perform mechanical calculations for structural strength, thermal expansion, and stress analysis

  • Support fabrication and assembly teams by producing clear, complete technical documentation

  • Participate in customer meetings and provide design recommendations

  • Troubleshoot design issues and support field installations

  • Ensure compliance with safety codes and industry standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, ISO, CE)

  • Collaborate across engineering, production, and sales teams to meet project goals

  • What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 3–5 years of mechanical design experience (preferably in industrial equipment or low-volume manufacturing)

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visa status at this time.

  • SolidWorks proficiency (required)

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems: pumps, valves, pneumatics, hydraulics, and structural supports

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at once

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to occasionally travel to customer sites

  • Bonus Points For

  • Experience designing high-temperature or combustion-related equipment

  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, KISSsoft, or similar simulation tools

  • Background in industrial automation or robotics integration

  • Experience working in a job shop or custom equipment environment
