MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical construction activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, schedules, procedures, and project requirements.
- Coordinate daily mechanical construction activities involving equipment installation, piping, mechanical systems, rotating equipment, static equipment, and associated facilities.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, method statements, work packs, and construction procedures before commencement of work.
- Supervise installation, alignment, leveling, grouting, and commissioning preparation of static and rotating equipment.
- Monitor installation of pumps, compressors, turbines, generators, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, valves, and other mechanical equipment.
- Supervise piping fabrication and installation, including pipe supports, valves, flanges, fittings, pressure testing, flushing, and reinstatement.
- Ensure mechanical equipment and piping installations conform to approved engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and manufacturer requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, QA/QC, HSE, commissioning, and engineering teams to resolve construction interfaces and site issues.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance, productivity, manpower, equipment utilization, and work quality.
- Verify that materials and equipment are available, correctly identified, inspected, and properly stored before installation.
- Ensure proper implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures, inspection requirements, and approved construction work packs.
- Coordinate mechanical inspections, testing, punch-list activities, mechanical completion, and system handover.
- Supervise hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, leak testing, and reinstatement activities as applicable.
- Ensure equipment alignment, shaft alignment, bolt torquing, flange management, welding support, and other critical mechanical activities are properly controlled.
- Monitor preservation requirements for installed and completed mechanical equipment.
- Identify construction constraints, technical issues, design discrepancies, and field changes and coordinate timely resolution.
- Monitor construction progress against approved schedules and provide accurate progress updates to the Construction Manager.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, construction planning meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-job meetings.
- Ensure all mechanical construction activities comply with approved Permit-to-Work (PTW), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), risk assessments, lifting plans, and safe work procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions, quality deficiencies, and deviations from approved requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, manpower, equipment, materials, inspections, testing, progress, and outstanding work.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, mechanical completion, and final project handover activities.
- Ensure completed mechanical systems are properly documented and handed over with all relevant drawings, inspection records, test certificates, and completion dossiers.
- Promote continuous improvement, safe working practices, quality workmanship, and efficient use of project resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager or Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or a related discipline.
- Typically 8–10 years of relevant mechanical construction experience, preferably within oil & gas, petrochemical, power, marine, or other industrial projects.
- Proven experience supervising mechanical equipment, piping, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction methods, piping systems, rotating and static equipment, equipment alignment, and pressure testing.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, isometrics, equipment drawings, plot plans, and construction work packs.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, API, AWS, and relevant project specifications.
- Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary site teams.
- Good understanding of QA/QC requirements, ITPs, inspection procedures, punch-list management, and mechanical completion.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, including PTW, JSA, risk assessments, lifting operations, confined-space work, and SIMOPS.
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction/project management systems.
- Ability to work effectively in demanding site environments, including offshore or remote locations where required.
