About the Role The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers and other wheeled vehicles at Cemex US. This role focuses on troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safety standards and efficient repair operations. What You'll Do
- Examine and diagnose vehicle problems and perform repairs according to generally accepted methods.
- Discuss extensive or difficult repairs with Terminal Manager and/or Supervisor.
- Demonstrate and enforce Cemex safety policies and OSHA regulations; ensure shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations.
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance outlined on PM checklist sheets.
- Plan routine work procedures.
- Raise vehicles using hydraulic jack or hoist for access to mechanical components.
- Remove, repair or replace components such as alternators, starters, water pumps, radiators, condensers, compressors, clutches, transmissions, differentials, wheel assemblies, brakes, drivelines, gearboxes, pumps, rollers, etc.
- Disassemble components, inspect parts for wear, determine cause of failure.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems and components.
- Inspect and replace parts such as clutches, wheel seals, brake linings, drums, bearings.
- Overhaul and rebuild serviceable components.
- Some regional travel required to repair company equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems and circuitry to industry standards.
- Occasional cutting and welding using gas and electric equipment.
- Replace headlights and install/repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, wiper blades.
- Enter work orders in the system for inventory purposes.
- Adhere to Cemex, OSHA, and MSHA rules; wear proper safety equipment.
- Meet or exceed safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management. What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver's License; CDL Class A or B preferred or ability to obtain within 180 days, with driving record that meets company requirements.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
- TWIC preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and execute verbal and written instructions.
- Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.
- Willingness to travel regionally. Nice to Have
- CDL Class A or B preferred or ability to obtain within 180 days.
- Spanish bilingual is a plus.
