About Ontic Creedmoor

Our 100,000 sq ft Creedmoor facility brings together a broad mix of electronic, avionic and electro-mechanical aerospace capabilities, alongside several businesses within the Ontic Group.

From flight-control actuators and cockpit instrumentation to fire-protection systems and data recorders, the teams at Creedmoor support a diverse portfolio of products that perform critical functions across civil and military aircraft.

It's a collaborative, fast-moving environment where engineering, manufacturing, quality and support teams work together to solve complex challenges. For people who like taking ownership, finding better ways to do things and seeing the impact of their work, there's plenty of opportunity to make a difference.

The opportunity

As a Materials & Process Engineer at Ontic, you'll support both the sustainment of established aerospace products and the development of new and modernized technologies. Working within our Sustainment and Design Engineering team, you'll help ensure the materials and manufacturing processes used in critical aerospace components meet demanding performance, quality and reliability requirements.

You'll take on complex technical challenges involving material selection, qualification, manufacturing processes and obsolescence. From investigating legacy materials that are no longer available to developing technically justified alternatives, your work will help maintain product availability and support long-term aircraft operations.

This is an opportunity to apply your materials engineering expertise across a diverse portfolio of aerospace products while collaborating with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and external suppliers to solve problems, improve processes and support product innovation.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide materials and process engineering support for established aerospace products and new product development, including the selection, qualification, application and substitution of metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Develop and maintain material specifications, manufacturing process requirements and engineering standards, evaluating material properties, compatibility, environmental resistance and long-term performance.
  • Investigate obsolete or unavailable legacy materials and processes, developing technically justified alternatives through research, material characterization, testing, equivalency assessments and qualification.
  • Support manufacturing and special processes, including heat treatment, plating, coatings, chemical processing, bonding, welding, soldering and machining, while partnering with engineering and operations teams to resolve production challenges.
  • Lead or support material and process investigations, failure analysis and root cause assessments, developing corrective actions and supporting the disposition of nonconforming materials.
  • Develop qualification plans, coordinate laboratory testing and evaluate supplier materials and processes to ensure compliance with applicable engineering, customer and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and suppliers to resolve technical issues, support product modernization and maintain accurate engineering specifications, drawings and qualification documentation.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of experience in materials and process engineering, materials engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of metallic and non-metallic engineering materials and manufacturing processes, including their properties, applications and performance considerations.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, material specifications, process requirements and technical documentation.
  • Experience investigating material, manufacturing or product nonconformances and developing technically sound solutions.
  • Strong analytical, research, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly and collaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Desirable: Aerospace or defense industry experience, particularly in legacy product sustainment, materials obsolescence, material qualification, special processes, supplier assessments or failure analysis. Familiarity with aerospace material standards, AS9100, SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, and environmental material compliance requirements is advantageous.
