About this opportunity:
Ericsson Research Area Security provides Ericsson business and development units with security competence, architectures, and solutions for platforms, networks, and services. Our research covers areas including cryptography, secure networking, AI/ML security, service and application security, identity management, privacy, and methods for developing and evaluating security systems. We focus on new concepts and methods, patents, and standardisation.
This Master's thesis will be hosted by Ericsson Research in Kista and will be part of an international team of world-class researchers with diverse backgrounds and expertise in machine learning and network security.
The project will focus on designing and evaluating red–blue teaming systems powered by AI agents. The goal is to build systems capable of performing offensive (red team) and defensive (blue team) cybersecurity operations within isolated environments and to evaluate their effectiveness using structured benchmarks.
What you will do:

The thesis will investigate the following research questions:

How can AI agents be designed to execute red team attack strategies and blue team defence responses?

Which architectures are most effective for AI-driven cybersecurity tasks?

Which evaluation frameworks and metrics are appropriate for measuring the effectiveness of red–blue teaming agents?
You will design and implement relevant components, define or use structured evaluation scenarios, analyse the results, and document your findings in a Master's thesis.
The skills you bring:

You are enrolled in a Master's programme in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, or an equivalent field.

You have strong programming skills.

You are interested in cybersecurity, machine learning, and AI agent systems.

You have strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
Experience with agentic AI frameworks is considered a plus. Relevant project experience is highly valued, so please describe completed projects and your specific role in them. Technical reports written by you, such as school assignments or blog posts, may also be included as supporting material.
