Job title: Manufacturing Engineer
About the Role The Manufacturing Engineer will own manufacturing process development, production readiness, and ERP system integrity within a custom engineer-to-order steel fabrication environment. This role bridges engineering, production, quality, procurement, and planning to drive efficiency, cost control, and continuous improvement. It focuses on optimizing fabrication processes across welding, cutting, forming, and assembly to ensure safe, repeatable production.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes for fabricated industrial equipment and assemblies
- Create and maintain work instructions, process flows, routings, and bills of materials
- Review released engineering drawings and BOMs for manufacturing completeness and accuracy; validate weld details, tolerances, material specs, cut and finishing requirements
- Enter routings, labor standards, work centers, and operation sequences into ERP; ensure controlled release to shop with correct revisions
- Coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revision updates; support ERP data integrity for parts and subassemblies
- Support job costing through proper system setup and labor standards validation
- Act as a liaison among engineering, production, quality, procurement, and planning to maintain uniform standards
- Support quality/compliance activities; participate in audits and drive corrective actions and process controls
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, Lean manufacturing, value stream mapping, and layout improvements
- Promote a safe manufacturing environment and adhere to safety policies
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, mechanical, industrial engineering, or related field
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes (cutting, forming, welding, assembly)
- Hands-on steel fabrication experience; ability to review and approve final drawings prior to cutting
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems; proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality systems
- 2-5 years of experience in fabrication or industrial equipment manufacturing
- Relocation support may be offered for candidates relocating from outside the region
Nice to Have
- Experience with welding, structural fabrication, or heavy equipment manufacturing strongly preferred
