Manufacturing - Associate Test Engineer 2 Shift 2

Location: Milpitas, California (Onsite)

Role Overview

This position focuses on optics-based systems, including powering up lasers, aligning beams into optics paths, performing calibrations, and running inspections to ensure proper tool operation. The role involves significant optics alignment and electromechanical troubleshooting within a Class 100 cleanroom environment. Daily activities include continuing work from the previous shift and managing a process that can take 35-40 days to complete.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform set-up, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical assemblies at the system level.

• Power up lasers and align the beam into an optics path, followed by calibration and inspection of a reticle.

• Conduct heavy optics alignment and electromechanical troubleshooting, with a focus of approximately 70% optical and 30% electrical/mechanical.

• Troubleshoot down to an optics module to identify if the root cause is electrical or mechanical.

• Work within a Class 100 cleanroom environment.

• Determine and develop methods and procedures from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.

• Test and troubleshoot assemblies and/or final systems, completing rework as needed.

• Prepare technical reports to summarize findings and recommend solutions.

• Work on moderately difficult assignments that require judgment in resolving issues.

• Handle ongoing daily work with minimal instruction and general instructions on new assignments.

• Required Qualifications

• Education: An electrical or mechanical degree is preferred. A Technical Certificate, AS degree, military technical training, or equivalent vocational training in a technical discipline is also acceptable.

• Experience: Experience with optics and lasers is a mandatory requirement, which can be from academic projects or professional work. If a candidate has 5 years of relevant laser optics experience, a degree is not required. Hands-on experience in electro-mechanical assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair is necessary.

• Ability to work in a clean room environment is required. Must be able to use and manipulate a variety of fine adjustment hand tools, torque wrenches, and calipers.

• Preferred Qualifications

• A BSEE, BSEET, or a similar degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.

• Recent mechanical engineering graduates have been successful in this role.

• Hands-on experience using Oscilloscopes and DVM analysis tools and equipment is preferred.

• Knowledge of LabView, Linux, and MS Office suite software is a plus.

• Work Environment

• The role requires an individual who is flexible, communicative, and willing to learn. Candidates should be able to work independently, follow instructions, ask questions, and take notes. The ability to collaborate effectively within and across teams is important. The position may require working extended hours, including weekends, and the ability to stand, sit, bend, and periodically lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
