About the Role

Canonical is hiring a Mandarin-speaking Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our reach in mission-critical industries such as Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, Telco, and Consumer Electronics. This remote APAC role focuses on hands-on Linux expertise, hardware-software integration, and customer engagements to bring Ubuntu and Ubuntu Core into customer devices.

What You'll Do

• Provide field engineering support for embedded Linux devices across APAC, including low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development methodologies.
• Work with customers to design, package, and debug Linux-based software, ensuring security and resilience in Ubuntu Core deployments and translating customer ideas into working solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and provide thoughtful, well-informed answers across Canonical's solutions during customer engagements; collaborate with partners and internal teams.
• Represent Canonical in customer conversations, ensuring we do the best thing for partners and customers, even when facing tough questions; participate in occasional in-person meetings (two to four times per year).
• Leverage strong scripting and coding skills, and contribute to distribution packaging, software design, and system debugging.

What We're Looking For

• Mandarin-speaking with strong communication skills; ability to interact with customers across APAC.
• Deep Linux expertise; you are an accomplished “Linux plumber,” proficient in distribution packaging, software design, system debugging, and bringing customer ideas to life.
• Experience with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development methodologies.
• Proficiency in scripting and coding; comfortable with rapid change and diverse client engagements.
• Experience with customer engagements and ability to translate customer needs into working solutions.
• Team player with a customer-focused mindset and a track record of delivering thoughtful, well-informed answers.

Nice to Have

• Real-time Linux capability and familiarity with related certifications; experience contributing to certification efforts for embedded offerings.
• Familiarity with Ubuntu Core and security/resilience features for IoT devices.
• Experience in Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, or Telco domains is a plus.
