Job Description

Joining Amex Tech means discovering and shaping your contribution to something big. Here, you can work alongside talented tech teams and build a unique career with the Powerful Backing of American Express. With a range of opportunities to work with the latest technologies, and a commitment to back the broader engineering community through open source, our mission is to power your success. Because Amex Tech is powered by our technology, our culture, and our colleagues.

The Technology organization enables and accelerates the company’s growth strategies, delivering global capabilities and services in support of Amex’s customers and colleagues, while maintaining 24/7 servicing and availability to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality customer experience. Technology provides the foundation for everything we do in the company while driving differentiation through building and leveraging innovative technology and data insights.

The Global Risk and Compliance Technology (GRCT) Product Delivery and Integration team is seeking an innovative Technical Project Manager with a strong project management and technology mindset. This individual will partner with AI/ML product, engineering, data science, architecture, risk, and technology teams to translate complex work into clear delivery plans and deliver scalable, governed solutions from concept to production. Delivering value-based outcomes using Agile practices is critical, as is developing a working understanding of the AI/ML products, data dependencies, model-development processes, and technology platforms supported by the team. In this role, you will drive delivery enablement and lead engineering, data science, and machine learning teams in applying Agile and Scrum principles to achieve responsible, measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute integrated delivery plans across GRCT, partner teams, and AI/ML product, engineering, data science, and platform teams.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and other Agile ceremonies, ensuring prioritized backlogs, clear acceptance criteria, and alignment with Program Increment objectives.
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies and AI/ML activities spanning data readiness, experimentation, model development and validation, integration, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
  • Translate technical solutions, dependencies, risks, trade-offs, and delivery progress into clear documentation and updates for business and technology stakeholders.
  • Track and resolve impediments, risks, resource needs, and delivery gaps while providing visibility into issues and opportunities across Agile teams.
  • Use team-level metrics and data-driven insights to measure execution, delivery progress, quality, and value realized for end users.
  • Partner with Product Owners and technical leads to define delivery outcomes, measures of success, and scalable, production-ready AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Support responsible AI, model risk management, data governance, security, privacy, and technology-control requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Champion Agile principles, continuous improvement, and innovation to strengthen team performance and deliver responsible, measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or another technology field, or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred.

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible technology delivery and project management experience.

  • Experience using Rally, Jira, or similar tools to track iteration progress, resolve issues, remove obstacles, and meet sprint commitments.

  • Experience partnering with Product Owners and cross-functional teams to build, prioritize, and maintain product backlogs.

  • Experience coaching teams on Technology SDLC processes, Agile values, principles, and practices to improve delivery capacity.

  • Experience delivering Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, advanced analytics, data, or similarly complex technology products.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects, Product Owners, governance partners, and business stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of the AI/ML delivery lifecycle, including data readiness, experimentation, model development, validation, integration, deployment, and production monitoring.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across technical and nontechnical audiences, with familiarity in responsible AI, model and data governance, privacy, security, and model risk management.

  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

  • At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues.
