You will take ownership of recurring monthly tax processes so the tax function has reliable coverage and the Head of Tax can focus on planning and complex technical matters. This role requires a strong working knowledge of tax technical areas and ability to work with internal stakeholders and outside services providers.
Responsibilities
- Support the quarterly and annual tax accounting and financial reporting (ASC 740), including accurate and timely tax accounting disclosures and working with external auditors to provide supporting documentation, as requested.
- Assist the tax team to manage and execute SOX compliance and key controls.
- Own the monthly indirect tax close for all tax accounts, including clearing the sales tax clearing account into jurisdiction-level payables, preparing NetSuite journal entry imports, and reconciling and proving the US sales and use tax, GST, HST and VAT balances across our entities.
- Coordinate with outside firms in the preparation of income tax returns and local filings for our US and international entities, and prepare the monthly intercompany transfer pricing calculation, true-ups and intercompany entries.
- Manage global indirect tax compliance, including US sales and use tax and international GST, HST and VAT, and support Avalara and NetSuite tax setup, including the twice-monthly address reconciliation and tax codes for new products.
- Maintain tax calendars and assignment of responsibilities to ensure all required dates are met.
- Develop and maintain relationships throughout the finance organization and cross-functionally to increase understanding of the business and potential impacts on tax compliance and strategy.
- Support domestic and international tax audits, and manage the intake, research and response to tax notices, escalating to the Head of Tax as needed.
- Research and evaluate the tax impact of current and proposed tax legislation.
- Act as backup to the Head of Tax during absences and peak periods, and provide tax support for special projects and ad-hoc reporting and analysis as necessary.
Experience and Requirements:
We’re looking for someone with experience in:
-
Minimum 6 years of related tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department, including US sales and use tax and supporting US-headquartered or multinational groups
-
Bachelor's degree in commerce or accounting; Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA or equivalent qualification preferred
-
Advanced Microsoft Excel required, with experience in NetSuite, Avalara and ONESOURCE Tax Provision a plus.
-
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in a global capability center or shared services tax team supporting a US multinational, with exposure to US sales and use tax, international VAT/GST and transfer pricing.
-
Key Skills
-
Ability to design and build complex tax modeling
-
Strong tax technical and process knowledge
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to work on cross functional activities and form solid business relationships
-
A positive can-do attitude in a dynamic changing environment
-
Flexible to work hours that overlap with US business hours and to devote additional effort during peak periods.
-
Key Competencies
-
Ownership and accountability for recurring deliverables, attention to detail and a control mindset, and clear, proactive communication with remote stakeholders.
-
On-Camera Policy
-
To support a fair, transparent, and engaging interview experience, candidates interviewing remotely are expected to be on camera during all video interviews. Being on camera fosters authentic connection, improves communication, and allows for full engagement from both candidates and interviewers. We understand that technical, bandwidth, or location-related challenges may occasionally prevent video use. If this applies, candidates are required to notify us in advance so we can explore appropriate accommodations.
