What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Measurement & Modeling Science Group is seeking a Research and Development Manager for the Applied Science and Engineering Integration Department. This department serves as a strategic integration hub for Center 1800 by aligning engineering support, digital infrastructure, ES&H, mission assurance, quality assurance, safeguards and security, facilities coordination, communications, and continuous improvement activities.

The selected manager will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for translating DOE/NNSA and corporate requirements into practical laboratory-specific processes, developing digital tools and integrated work systems, strengthening Center-wide work practices, and building partnerships across line, program, and corporate organizations.

The manager will help shape how Center 1800 applies work controls, uses data to inform decisions, standardizes safe and effective laboratory practices, and modernizes Center processes through digital transformation. The department enables Center leadership and technical organizations to focus on mission execution by creating practical systems that help researchers navigate requirements, make risk-informed decisions, and access actionable metrics, integrated communications, and sustainable processes for safety, security, assurance, facilities, data, and infrastructure.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Provide strategic leadership for the department, including vision, priorities, staff development, resource planning, and alignment with Center 1800¿s research and mission objectives.

Develop practical Center-level systems that help researchers and leaders navigate institutional requirements, make timely risk-informed decisions, and align work practices with mission priorities.

Lead digital transformation efforts that improve how research teams plan work, access information, track resources, manage data, and execute laboratory activities.

Establish performance analytics that provide timely insight into work risks, resource needs, instrument utilization, research infrastructure, improvement activities, and Center performance trends.

Translate DOE/NNSA, ES&H, Safeguards and Security, Quality Assurance, facilities, and other institutional requirements into clear, practical approaches that work in laboratory and R&D environments.

Serve as a Center-facing integrator who helps research teams resolve barriers, clarify requirements, coordinate stakeholder input, and identify practical paths forward.

Build trusted partnerships with researchers, technical managers, Center leadership, and corporate partners to align institutional expectations with the realities of experimental and computational work.

Lead integrated communications strategies that clarify decisions, reduce noise, explain the purpose and value of requirements, and help staff understand how to move work forward.

Guide Center support functions that enable safe and effective research, including work planning, worker qualification, infrastructure coordination, safety programs, assessments, corrective actions, emergency preparedness, hazardous waste, and continuous improvement.

Foster a safe, secure, inclusive, transparent, and high-performing environment that encourages critical thinking, empowers employees, and enables impactful research and mission execution.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:
