JOB SUMMARY
We’re looking for a Manager of Enterprise Solutions Engineering to lead NetApp’s Enterprise SE team across Canada. Reporting directly to the VP and GM of Canada, this leader will own technical pre-sales strategy and execution for the Canadian enterprise business while directly managing a team of experienced, field-facing Solutions Engineers.
This is a hands-on leadership role with country-level scope. You’ll partner closely with Canadian sales leadership to shape business priorities, align technical resources, and drive complex enterprise opportunities. You’ll also stay close to the work: coaching technical discovery, helping navigate competitive deals, and joining customer and executive conversations when your experience can make a difference.
Your team members are deep technologists and trusted advisors who support Enterprise Client Executives across Canada. Your job is to make them even better, remove barriers, and connect their work to the broader priorities of the Canadian business. You’ll bring the strategic judgment to help shape the business and the practical experience to get in the field alongside your team when it counts.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead, develop, and inspire a team of Enterprise Solutions Engineers across Canada, with direct responsibility for individual contributors, team performance, and technical execution.
- Partner with the VP and GM of Canada and enterprise sales leadership to shape technical pre-sales strategy, joint territory plans, account priorities, and quarterly business reviews.
- Be in the field through customer meetings, executive briefings, technical discovery, and strategic deal support. Build relationships with executive sponsors and technical decision-makers.
- Own the technical win, guiding SE engagement from discovery and solution design through proof of concept, technical validation, and close.
- Coach SEs through complex competitive deals, customer objections, and high-stakes presentations, helping connect NetApp’s capabilities to customer business outcomes.
- Develop strong relationships with channel and distribution partners, aligning technical resources and joint account strategies to expand the team’s impact.
- Maintain a clear view of pipeline, deal stages, technical coverage, and team capacity. Prioritize resources and address gaps while keeping the team organized and accountable.
- Partner with Sales Operations and Finance on territory design, quota planning, forecasting cadence, and annual business planning, bringing a clear perspective on technical capacity and execution.
- Work cross-functionally with Product Management, Marketing, Solutions, Customer Success, and Human Resources to address customer needs and ensure the team has what it needs to succeed.
- Own recruiting, onboarding, retention, and development of SE talent, including succession planning and continuity of technical coverage for key accounts.
- Lead quarterly and annual performance reviews using NetApp’s High Growth Principles. Set clear expectations, deliver actionable feedback, and maintain a consistent performance bar.
- Drive individual development plans and career conversations, helping team members deepen their expertise, expand their impact, and prepare for future opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in Solutions Engineering, Systems Engineering, Sales Engineering, or a comparable technical pre-sales role.
- 2+ years managing or leading an SE or technical pre-sales team, with direct ownership of team performance and accountability for regional quota attainment.
- Ability to translate country-level business priorities into technical pre-sales strategy, resource decisions, and team execution while remaining engaged in coaching and customer opportunities.
- Deep technical background in enterprise data infrastructure, storage, hybrid or multi-cloud environments, data management, or an adjacent space, required.
- NetApp experience or strong familiarity with NetApp’s portfolio is a significant plus.
- Proven ability to partner with enterprise sales teams through complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles involving executive sponsors, technical buyers, and extended decision timelines.
- Strong executive presence, with the ability to build credibility with senior customer leaders and connect technical capabilities to business priorities.
- Strong channel intuition and experience working with VAR and distribution partners to expand technical coverage and drive joint success.
- Operational discipline: you can assess a pipeline, manage technical coverage, contribute to forecasting, and keep a geographically distributed team moving without micromanaging.
- Excellent communication and coaching skills. You can present to a CTO, develop an experienced SE, and work through a challenging deal strategy with a sales leader.
- Experience supporting Canadian enterprise customers and working within the Canadian partner ecosystem is a plus.
- Willingness to travel throughout Canada, to support the team, customers, and partner relationships.
- A genuine love for the pre-sales world: the technical discovery, the deal strategy, and the conversations about how to help customers succeed and win as a team.
