Manager of Construction provides leadership, oversight and strategic direction for transmission line and substation projects across the Entergy system, delivering cost, scope and schedule certainty with a focus on high-quality results and transparency throughout project lifecycles. Typically responsible for a capital program of $100M and above with high financial risk and complexity, leading a team of direct, jurisdictional and contract support professionals in project planning, organization, and execution across the Transmission portfolio. This role requires coordination with contractors and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with Entergy standards and policies while maintaining a strong safety and performance focus.
Implement and monitor company and contractor safety initiatives affecting transmission line and substation construction projects across a geographic area. Work with senior management to manage the portfolio budget including individual project execution and annual transmission capital plan performance. Serve as the primary interface with the contractor's senior site representative to promote open communication and cooperation between Owner and Contractor site teams. Lead the project team to develop and execute projects in accordance with corporate standards, guidelines, policies, and processes. Navigate the Entergy Stage Gate process and coordinate all activities to meet the Entergy Project Delivery Standard. Oversee the development of project deliverables (Project Execution Plan, cost estimates, schedules, risk register, reports, etc.). Coordinate activities of project stakeholders and working groups engaged in project work. Provide leadership to ensure the assigned project portfolio is executed according to company, business unit, and work group practices, including multidisciplinary activities such as project management, controls, change management, problem resolution, substation and line civil and construction work, steel and electrical installations, system protection and control installations and checkout, ROW clearing, and environmental compliance such as SWPPP. Negotiate and manage contract execution ensuring safety, quality, cost and schedule attainment of contractors. Ensure each contractor constructs the project in accordance with drawings, specifications and contract terms; monitor progress and initiate recovery actions as needed. Review daily reports submitted by contractors and review invoices, verifying completion of field work prior to payment. Deliver projects with cost and schedule certainty; manage risk by identifying and mitigating project risks and issues. Work is performed system-wide in both office settings and field conditions.
Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, project management or related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred (MBA, Masters in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management). Experience: Minimum 3 years of operational supervisory/management experience with a degree, or 6 years without a degree. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Subject matter expert in project and construction management fundamentals and complex project problem resolution; practical application of engineering to transmission lines and substations; proven safety record and commitment to safe workplace; excellent written and verbal communication; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software; understanding of industry best practices; demonstrated cross-functional project leadership and service mindset; ability to act as trusted advisor; knowledge of effective estimating practices.
