About this role

About the Role Occidental College seeks a strategic leader to manage the College’s digital storytelling and social media across institutional channels. The Manager, Digital Communications will develop platform-specific content, guide campaigns, and elevate the College’s brand while supervising student staff and advising campus partners.

What You'll Do

  • Create and manage content for the College’s social platforms, including platform-specific copywriting, video production, content editing, and channel optimization. Oversee student-created content and coordinate photography and asset requests with internal and external vendors.
  • Utilize analytics to drive decision making and improve marketing effectiveness; prepare quarterly reports on social media performance for the Vice President.
  • Supervise student employees by assigning and overseeing department-specific projects; review and approve timesheets and deliverables.
  • Plan, develop, and execute internal newsletters for faculty, staff, and student audiences.
  • Serve as the College’s social media advisor for campus partners on best practices, content strategy, and channel use; lead the campus Social Media Communicators Group through quarterly meetings.
  • Lead internally managed paid social media advertising efforts, including campaign strategy, budget management, audience targeting, and performance optimization.
  • Lead video production projects as producer from concept through distribution; identify/manage external vendors, outline project scope and timelines, scripting, and provide editorial direction.
  • Oversee Canva Enterprise licenses and act as primary liaison with ITS for this technology subscription.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, digital media, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, including three years in social media and email marketing; two years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, web editing, social media applications, email marketing platforms, and other productivity tools.
  • Expertise managing social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Instagram; strong content strategy, development, and channel optimization capabilities.
  • Ability to develop and manage email marketing campaigns (campaign strategy, content development, tracking/measurement, A/B testing, and use of email automation).
  • Excellent writing skills for social content; strong data-driven decision-making and ability to translate institutional priorities into platform-specific campaigns.
  • Ability to manage video production from concept to completion; capable of leading teams and collaborating across organizational lines.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality work; strong verbal, written, and electronic communication; effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity; ability to work in a high-volume, high-accountability environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Canva Enterprise licenses and collaboration with ITS for technology subscriptions.
