About the Role The New Jersey Judiciary seeks an innovative manager to lead the Appellate Division's Case Processing Unit, serving judges and guiding staff across case management and operations. The role supports the timely resolution of appeals and motions by overseeing multiple units and programs within the unit.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight for case management and processing of the nearly 5000 appeals and 7000 motions filed each court term, plus emergent applications.
  • Lead and develop teams including the Civil Appeals Settlement Program (CASP), legal staff, calendaring, Public Access Unit, final disposition, and records and reception units.
  • Ensure timely and proper processing, proper disposition of opinions and other case documents, and effective distribution of orders and communications to vicinages.
  • Manage calendaring for waiver or oral argument, coordinate livestreaming and brief-posting under the public access initiative, and support judges and staff with legal guidance.
  • Drive continuous improvement, performance management, and collaboration across court divisions while maintaining security and compliance in a hybrid work environment.
  • Oversee remote work readiness and ensure required security steps and reliable home internet access are in place.

What We're Looking For

  • Innovative manager with excellent interpersonal skills who can serve judges and lead a diverse staff.
  • Experience overseeing large volumes of court case processing (appeals and motions) and coordinating multiple functional units.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, calendaring, and public access coordination capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the vicinages and other stakeholders and to manage orders, reports, and appraisals.
  • Background in court administration or legal services; preferably in civil appellate settings.
  • Adaptability to a hybrid work schedule and comfort with security requirements for remote access.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Civil Appeals Settlement Program (CASP).
  • Prior state or government-sector experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $118,671.84 to $181,883.57 per year.
  • Note: For newly hired individuals, starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range. For current Judiciary employees, salary on promotion/advancement includes a 5% increase of base salary, not to exceed the maximum, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
