Job title: Maintenance Worker – Central Utility Plant
About the Role The Maintenance Worker will assist night shift staff with maintenance tasks related to the Central Utility Plant and distribution system. The role involves unskilled and semi-skilled repair work across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and equipment maintenance, with exposure to heavy physical demands and safety procedures.
What You'll Do
- Assist night shift staff on monitoring the building automation system, tunnel inspections, meter logs, boiler logs, seasonal chiller maintenance, and general repairs to Central Utility Plant equipment.
- Perform unskilled and semi-skilled repairs of acoustic tile ceilings and grids.
- Perform unskilled and semi-skilled minor electrical repairs on bulbs, lighting fixtures, switches, outlets, etc.; assist in skilled electrical repair and/or installation.
- Perform unskilled and semi-skilled minor plumbing repairs (sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains); assist in skilled repair of steam valves, water lines, pumps.
- Operate machine tools, pipe threading and grooving equipment; make repairs to metal parts and equipment; assist in repair and maintenance of interior and exterior maintenance equipment and other specialized equipment.
- Paint window frames, tables, and chairs; assist in painting of building interiors, sheds, rooms, and equipment.
- Perform unskilled and semi-skilled minor repair or replacement on doors, windows, walls, steps, floors, and/or gutters; assist skilled maintenance workers and trades persons.
- Assist with training new hires.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED; one year of maintenance repair experience (basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair, and use of related hand and power tools and equipment); and valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures pertaining to use of maintenance tools and equipment.
- Skills in building and equipment maintenance areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, sheet metal, painting, plastering, steam fitting, refrigeration, heating; use of associated hand and/or power tools and equipment.
- Ability to apply principles to solve problems involving few variables within familiar context; read and understand simple sentences.
- Preferred qualifications: Graduate from trade school in a building maintenance related field or equivalent training in applicable building trade.
