Job title: Maintenance Technician
About the Role
The Maintenance Technician performs preventative maintenance and journeyman-level repairs across multiple trades on William Peace University facilities, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, painting, and carpentry. The role also handles basic vehicle maintenance and grounds-keeping as needed, and works independently from an online work order system while collaborating with the AVP for Facilities and external vendors on complex requests.
What You'll Do
- Respond to work order requests in a professional and timely manner, documenting activities and resolutions to issues.
- Determine appropriate repairs and solutions based on work order details and communication with the reporting party and supervisor.
- Identify the cause of problems, determine required materials/tools, and select best corrective actions to prevent recurrence; carry out repair procedures independently.
- Participate in project planning and completion discussions.
- Install, maintain, alter, or repair plumbing, HVAC, and electrical fixtures.
- Perform carpentry tasks, including reading drawings, using tools, and delivering project outcomes.
- Repair/replace small motors and pumps; install/replace electrical fixtures and components.
- Prep walls and surfaces for interior and exterior painting; paint using brushes, rollers, and spray methods.
- Install and change out fixtures; clear lines and run lines related to plumbing issues.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, golf carts, and yard equipment.
- Maintain maintenance schedule and ensure preventative maintenance is performed by outside vendors in a timely fashion.
- Assist grounds technicians with seeding, mowing, plant installation, trimming, edging, and general lawn/landscape care; maintain pathways, roads, and parking lots; assist with removal of dirt, rubbish, snow, leaves, and refuse.
- Use hand and power tools to complete tasks.
- This position is mandatory/essential and will be required on campus under Adverse Weather and Emergency Closing policies.
- Perform other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED with at least two years of relevant experience in trades.
- Certifications as required by assigned tasks.
- Working knowledge of methods, practices, and materials involved in the trades.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings/design tools and apply carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical skills.
- Ability to carry out repair procedures independently and manage time effectively.
- Basic proficiency across plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance tasks.
- Physically capable of performing required duties: able to climb/balance, stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl; good near and peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus; frequent walking, standing, sitting, and reaching; ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; manual dexterity for tools and equipment.
- Willingness and ability to work on campus in varied weather and environmental conditions, and to operate safely around moving mechanical parts, fumes/chemicals, and electrical hazards.
