About the Role The City of Dayton seeks a skilled Maintenance Mechanic responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in wastewater treatment operations, including HVAC and various hydraulic and pneumatic systems. This role requires journey-worker level experience in mechanical trades, a valid driver’s license, and compliance with safety requirements including respirator use. Exam and employment processes follow Civil Service rules. What You'll Do
- Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment, including HVAC systems, hydraulic, hydro-pneumatic and pneumatic equipment, and air and gas compressors used in wastewater treatment operations.
- Ensure safety and health requirements, including the use of respirators or other required safety equipment.
- Possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a condition of continued employment.
- Participate in the Civil Service examination process and comply with background checks, medical examinations, drug and nicotine testing as required. What We're Looking For
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: 3 years of mechanical maintenance work, including journey-worker level in one or more mechanical trades.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
- General requirements: Ability to wear respirator and safety equipment.
- Promotional/Open Competitive statuses: Promotional qualifications; open competitive appointment subject to medical exam and employment authorization. Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation is an hourly wage (pay grade 120 or below; pay grade 29 or below for clerical) as applicable; specific salary not listed.
- Final appointment contingent upon medical examination, background investigation, drug screen, and nicotine screening; tobacco/nicotine-free policy for new hires.
