Job title: Maintenance Journeyman
About the Role The Maintenance Journeyman performs general maintenance activities and assists other mechanics with repairs to mobile equipment to keep equipment in good running order and maximize production. This role interfaces daily with operations at the Clinchfield site to support reliable uptime.
What You'll Do
- Assist mechanic and skilled personnel
- Perform mechanical work and repairs on mobile equipment
- Procure, move parts, material, equipment and necessary tools
- Operate hoist(s) during repairs
- Operate other mechanical equipment to load trucks
- Use powered tools to perform mechanical work and repairs
- Operate welding equipment to perform basic welding work
- Use oxy-acetylene torch equipment to perform light or medium cutting jobs
- Shoveling and clean-ups; storage and transport of used and/or damaged equipment to other areas
- Perform safety walk-around inspections before shifts
- Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed
- Maintain good housekeeping of equipment
- Adhere to CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to carry out not only simple, but complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience
- Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions and conversions of four-five digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems
- Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to read technical information contained in manuals and reports
- Ability to operate equipment in reverse using mirrors
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and/or moving up to 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers and outside contractors
- High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work safely and productively
- Working Conditions: Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors; must wear protective equipment
- Physical Requirements: Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree; Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; Regularly required to talk and hear and communicate around heavy rolling equipment; must be able to push, turn, and/or pull controls
