Job title: Maintenance Equipment Operator
About the Role The Maintenance Equipment Operator operates automotive and maintenance equipment to support highway maintenance and related building upkeep on the I-77 Express project. The role performs skilled maintenance tasks, assists in incident response, and may supervise or train less experienced staff as part of a fast-paced field team.
What You'll Do
- Operate tractors, mowers, sweepers, bucket trucks, and Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs), and use gas or hand tools to complete daily assignments.
- Inspect equipment for proper operating condition; perform minor repairs, lubrication, and assist in repairs as required.
- Perform miscellaneous skilled maintenance on the I-77 Express Lanes Project, including traffic control, pavement repair, landscaping, painting, barrier repairs, and after-hours emergency maintenance support.
- Respond to traffic incidents and provide roadside assistance to motorists on I-77 between uptown Charlotte and Mooresville; available for on-call after hours.
- Participate in building maintenance as required.
- Supervise and/or train less experienced personnel on equipment operation and roadway maintenance as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Valid Driver’s License; CDL not required but ability to obtain CDL in the future.
- 0-3+ years of experience in general roadway maintenance, traffic control, and traffic management (desired).
- Previous experience with construction vehicles.
- Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics.
- Professional qualities: team-oriented, self-motivated, good communication, multitasking and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact with colleagues in a team structure; able to work off hours.
- Physical requirements: able to lift up to 80 lbs; able to stand, walk, climb, drive and sit for long periods; outdoor work in various seasons; occasional roadway travel.
- Willing to submit to random drug testing.
