Job Summary
We are Honcho Nigeria Limited, a company with various interests but with a technology and marketing focus. This is a work-from-home job for a macOS MDM & Deployment QA Engineer who is Offshore (Nigeria).
About the Job
We are looking for a hands-on macOS MDM & Deployment QA Engineer based in Nigeria to test and validate a macOS application across different operating-system versions, Mac hardware configurations, and enterprise device-management environments.
The primary focus of this role is MDM environments, macOS system behavior, and deployment workflows.
You will configure and test managed Mac environments, validate installations and upgrades, investigate operating-system and policy-related failures, and provide engineers with the technical evidence needed to reproduce and resolve issues.
This is a hands-on technical QA role. You will regularly work with macOS devices, MDM consoles, configuration profiles, deployment packages, system logs, scripts, automation, and application builds to understand exactly how the software behaves under different enterprise conditions.
You will work remotely from Nigeria while collaborating with a U.S.-based engineering team.
You Will Own The Following:
MDM Environments
Build, configure, and maintain macOS test environments using enterprise MDM platforms.
Primary emphasis will be on Jamf Pro and Microsoft Intune, with additional coverage of Kandji and Mosyle where appropriate.
Responsibilities include:
- Enrolling and managing Mac test devices through MDM.
- Creating and validating configuration profiles and deployment policies.
- Testing differences between MDM platforms and configurations.
- Validating application behavior on newly enrolled and existing managed devices.
- Reproducing customer MDM configurations when investigating deployment problems.
- Identifying whether failures originate from the application, MDM configuration, packaging, permissions, or macOS itself.
Deployment Workflows
Own testing of the complete macOS application deployment lifecycle, including:
- Fresh installations.
- MDM-based installations.
- Application updates and version-to-version upgrades.
- Application removal and cleanup.
- Reinstallation after removal.
- Device enrollment and re-enrollment.
- macOS upgrades with the application already installed.
- Deployment to machines with existing profiles, policies, security software, and applications.
- Failed, interrupted, delayed, or partially completed deployments.
- Testing should represent conditions likely to exist on actual enterprise Macs rather than only clean test machines.
macOS Behavior
Investigate how macOS security, privacy, permissions, and system-management behavior affect the application.
Areas may include:
- Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC).
- Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC).
- Full Disk Access.
- Configuration profiles.
- Background items and services.
- Launch agents and launch daemons.
- System extensions.
- Application permissions.
- macOS security controls.
- Package installation behavior.
- Code signing and notarization.
- File locations, ownership, and permissions.
- Application behavior across supported macOS releases.
A key responsibility is determining whether unexpected behavior represents an application defect, macOS behavior, MDM policy issue, packaging problem, permissions issue, or environmental conflict.
Compatibility Testing
Execute a risk-based compatibility matrix across supported environments, including:
- Supported macOS versions.
- Apple silicon Macs.
- Intel Macs where applicable.
- Clean and previously configured devices.
- Managed and unmanaged devices.
- Different MDM platforms.
- Different application versions.
- Different installation, deployment, and upgrade paths.
Because exhaustive testing of every possible configuration is not practical, you should be able to identify the combinations presenting the highest risk and prioritize testing accordingly.
Reproduction and Technical Triage
Turn unusual deployment or compatibility problems into precise, reproducible engineering issues.
Bug reports should include:
- Exact reproduction steps.
- macOS version.
- Hardware and configuration details.
- MDM platform and relevant policies.
- Application version.
- Installation or upgrade path.
- Relevant configuration profiles.
- Logs and diagnostic evidence.
- Expected versus actual behavior.
- Frequency and impact of the problem.
- Engineers should be able to use your report to understand both what failed and the exact environment in which it failed.
Automation and Tooling
Automate repetitive portions of compatibility and deployment testing where automation improves reliability and coverage.
This may include scripting for:
- Environment validation.
- Application installation and removal.
- Device-state verification.
- Log and diagnostic collection.
- Configuration verification.
- Regression testing.
- Test-data collection.
- Comparison of results between macOS or application versions.
- Automation should complement (not replace) hands-on validation of macOS and MDM behavior.
Release Quality
Work directly with engineering to validate builds before release.
You will help determine:
- Which macOS configurations have been tested.
- Which MDM environments have been validated.
- Which deployment workflows have passed.
- Which defects remain open.
- Which fixes require regression testing.
- Which compatibility risks remain before release.
You will also verify fixes against the original failing environment whenever practical.
AI-Assisted QA
Use AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
This may include using AI to:
- Generate additional test scenarios.
- Assist with automation and scripting.
- Analyze logs.
- Compare results across environments.
- Investigate unusual failures.
- Identify potential gaps in test coverage.
AI should increase the scope and efficiency of testing while direct validation on real macOS environments remains an important part of the role.
Qualifications
- You have 7+ years of experience in QA engineering, test engineering, macOS administration, endpoint engineering, or a closely related technical role.
- You have hands-on experience testing or supp
