Machinist

About the Role Volt is seeking a Machinist in San Diego, CA to perform setup and operation of CNC and manual machines, interpreting engineering instructions and tolerances to determine the sequence of operations, tooling, locating/aligning methods, and feeds and speeds. The role includes making machine adjustments for efficient machining, using precision measuring instruments to ensure part conformance, tool pre-setting/sharpening, and deburring parts. The candidate will also replenish coolant and lubricants and support lab consumables, maintenance, and administrative tasks. This is a full‑time temporary-to-hire position with overtime opportunities. What You'll Do

• Perform complete and independent setup of various machine tools and operate within the machine's capacity, following Engineering Instructions, prints, tapes, sketches, or oral/written instructions to determine the sequence of operations, dimensions, tolerances, tools, locating, aligning, and feeds/speeds.
• Make machine adjustments for efficient machining operations.
• Use precision measuring instruments to check own work for conformance to specifications.
• Pre-set and/or sharpen cutting tools as required.
• Recognize improper machine functions and take corrective action; resolve discrepancies.
• Deburr and break edges of own machine parts.
• Replenish coolant, change accessible filters, and lubricate own machine tools as required.
• Support managing lab consumables/supplies and ensure adequate quantities to complete jobs.
• Support lab maintenance and administrative activities (IT, Admins, Maintenance, Facilities).
• Schedule: Monday–Friday 8am–5pm or 9am–6pm with overtime potential. What We're Looking For
• Trade School Certificate, associate's degree in Machine Technology, or High School Diploma/GED equivalent; minimum 2 years' experience in setting up and operating CNC machines.
• Experience operating CNC Wire EDM, CNC and Manual Lathes, CNC and Manual Mills, Chop Saws, Bandsaws, Surface Grinders, Hydraulic Press, Angle Grinders, and Dye Grinders.
• Experience operating material movement equipment such as overhead cranes, walkie stackers, and conventional sit-down forklifts.
• Knowledge of setting and using measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).
• Ability to interpret Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Fabrication of tooling aids as required; use of advanced shop math.
• Ability to work overtime as needed; strong communication and interpersonal skills; working computer skills. Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $27.00–$30.00 per hour.
