About the Role Machinist at Sonoco in Milwaukee, WI will set up and operate machine tools, maintain production equipment, and help ensure safe, compliant manufacturing operations within our packaging-focused business. What You'll Do
- Comply with established safety practices and company directives; maintain a safe work environment; address unsafe acts/conditions; participate in safety meetings and inspections; assist with accident investigations as required.
- Support and follow SQF food safety guidelines, SOPs, and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct.
- Review blueprints and work orders; create drawings or sketches; interpret drawings and determine dimensions, tapers, and other specs; perform layout as required.
- Provide on-the-job training for assigned personnel; manage tools, paperwork, and logbooks.
- Select, grind, and adjust tooling; set speeds and feeds for efficient machining; machine parts to tight tolerances and finish.
- Set up and operate lathes, grinders, mills, and hones; dismantle, fit, and assemble for maintenance of production equipment; repair and maintain machines.
- Assist in inspection of tooling and operate inspection equipment; comply with environmental regulations when handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes; perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For
- Working knowledge of standard machine shop and tool and die practices; metallurgy; terminology of assigned equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints and demonstrate skills related to tool and die work.
- Ability to work with basic math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) and to operate a computer.
- Ability to wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing and footwear. Compensation & Benefits
- Wage: $39.19 per hour plus $1.00 per hour shift differential.
- Shift: Night shift 6pm–6am, 3/4/4/3 schedule.
- Location: Milwaukee, WI; on-site.
